TrackMy is an app I created to empower people to track everything that fits into their personal vision of fitness and wellbeing. Traditional tracker apps often come with rigid, predefined options, limiting users to specific metrics like steps, calories, or sleep. But wellbeing isn’t one-size-fits-all—it's deeply personal and varies from person to person. Who defines what someone should be able to track on their wellness journey?
This is where TrackMy comes in. Instead of confining users to preset categories, TrackMy allows you to create custom trackers that align with your unique goals. Whether you're focusing on mindfulness, hydration, daily movement, or even unconventional habits like screen time reduction or creativity hours, TrackMy gives you the tools to track what matters to you.
With the freedom to define your own trackers, you're in control of shaping your wellness journey. It’s not about following a predefined path—it’s about creating your own. TrackMy is the app that lets you build habits, your way.
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
Fitness enthusiasts need a way to track everything in terms of fitness in order to see where they are and help reach their fitness goals
I conducted desk research, competitive analysis, and user surveys to gain a comprehensive understanding of the target audience, ultimately developing the user persona Samantha Steel. Through desk research, I explored industry trends, user behaviors, and common pain points. The competitive analysis allowed me to identify gaps and opportunities by comparing existing solutions in the market. Finally, user surveys provided valuable insights into the needs, preferences, and challenges faced by real users.
All of this research came together to create Samantha Steel, a detailed user persona that represents our ideal user. She embodies the common goals, frustrations, and motivations identified during the research, and served as a guiding reference throughout the design process.
After completing the research phase, I moved into the ideation stage, where I began brainstorming a wide range of solutions to address the problem statement. This creative process involved exploring various concepts and features that could meet the needs identified during the research. Through sketching out different possibilities and considering user pain points, I refined my focus toward creating an app that gives users the ultimate flexibility—the ability to track whatever they personally define as important.
Once the core idea was solidified, I developed a user flow diagram to map out how users would navigate through the app, ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience. From there, I created a sketch prototype of the user flow, which helped visualize the app's functionality and user interactions. This iterative process paved the way for mid-fidelity wireframes, where the structure and layout of the app began to take shape. These wireframes served as a crucial blueprint, guiding the transition from concept to reality and ensuring the app’s design aligned with both user needs and usability standards.
Once the wireframes were complete, the next step was to develop a visual style for TrackMy that would resonate with users and enhance the overall experience. Given that users would interact with the app daily to track their wellbeing, I wanted to ensure the design was not only functional but also visually inviting. My goal was to create a sense of calm and comfort, using colors that would be pleasant and soothing over time. This led me to choose a color scheme centered around teal and sand—teal for its calming, refreshing qualities and sand for its warmth and neutrality, offering a balanced and approachable feel.
To refine the aesthetic vision, I created a moodboard that captured the overall look and tone of the app. This included inspiration from nature, wellness brands, and minimalist designs to maintain a clean yet welcoming interface. With the moodboard guiding the direction, I was able to finalize the color palette, typography, and iconography that aligned with the app's purpose and user experience. This cohesive visual identity allowed me to move forward with confidence and complete the final high-fidelity mockups of TrackMy, bringing the app’s design to life.
Iteration is Key: I learned that continuous iteration is essential for refining and improving the design. Initial concepts often evolve significantly through multiple rounds of feedback and testing. Embracing this iterative process allowed me to address issues early, incorporate user feedback, and enhance the overall quality of the final product.
Self-Management and Time Management: Managing my own time and resources effectively was crucial. Balancing various phases of the project—research, design, prototyping, and testing—required strong organizational skills. I discovered the importance of setting clear milestones, prioritizing tasks, and maintaining a disciplined approach to meet deadlines without compromising the quality of the work.
The Importance of User Testing: Regular user testing proved to be a cornerstone of the design process. By continuously gathering feedback from real users, I was able to identify usability issues, validate design choices, and make informed improvements. This iterative feedback loop ensured that the final product was both user-friendly and aligned with the needs and expectations of the target audience.
These lessons have significantly contributed to my growth as a designer and will inform my approach to future projects.
